Fitness Trends...we got it!
It’s New Year and every year the fitness industry loves to announce what they feel the trends will be for the coming 12 months. Many gyms and trainers will then jump on the trends bandwagon to appeal to the public. What’s great this year is that we have been doing many trends already:
1. Small Group training,
2. Functional fitness
3. Body weight exercises
4. High intensity interval training
5. ‘Gentler’ intelligent exercise with pilates and gentle keep fit classes.
In fact we are already doing 14/20 of the trends in our current programs and in a fun and varied way to still excite our current clients!
Infusing Pilates for better stability
Even though pilates is not a ‘trend’ this year we know and understand that without good posture and deep stability the trends like bootcamp, HIIT, and circuit training would be less effective and damaging to the body.
The way we infuse pilates into our classes is adopting it as a way to move better not a way to look better. The pilates of the past was about "look at me" moves and elaborate choreography done primarily on a mat. Although it may not be exciting, pilates in it’s true form on equipment is here to stay and should be a way of life for anyone wanting to be fitter, stronger, more powerful, pain free and more athletic.
Correct and functional exercise should be what clients look for in a fitness program not "what’s hot now!"
It’s interesting that Andy Murray won Wimbledon the same year he became more serious about Pilates and body weight training. Athletes don't win with boot camp training or Zumba! More on that next time!
